’80s-suburban-cool: 10 Wexford Court, Keilor Downs, 3038

What is out is in again – it’s the well-known refrain heard from the lips of anyone who has lived through three or more decades.

This early 1980s A.V. Jennings build has many hallmarks of the era including the on-trend cabinetry in the kitchen still in excellent condition.

The house is set at the end of a court. Past the deep front yard and double carport, enter through the hardwood front door (with plantation shutter detail on the small side windows) to wrap-around-style living, with the kitchen at its heart.

Brand-new carpeting features in both living areas and the hall, and new sun blinds have been installed to keep the room cool in the hotter months. Drapes in the front living room are another recent addition.

Both living areas are comfortable and lead to the central aforementioned kitchen, with a new dishwasher and five-year-old oven and gas cooktop. The kitchen is set within a fantastic encapsulated meals area with mock balcony feature. The potential here to update at your leisure is great.

The three carpeted bedrooms all have ‘80s-style built-in robes, the main bedroom with four-doors of wardrobing and an en suite in original condition.

From the lounge room, with a Braemar Eurostar wall furnace, sliding glass and timber doors lead to the undercover, paved entertainment area and fernery.

Beyond is a fantastic garden that
will inspire those who love to produce produce.

A large lawn is surrounded by a vegie garden, a single olive tree that produced 15 kilograms of olives last season, a sectioned-off plum orchard with a small kitchen garden-style fence – perfect for raising chickens – plus lemons, mandarins, grapefruits, peaches and apricots.

A mature oak tree “is just beautiful during spring and summer”, grafted from the vendor’s family farm in Bungaree.

The house has been much-loved and the garden is a treasure trove of fruit and vegetables thanks to the resident green thumb.

The vendors are embarking on a sea-change, giving the next family the opportunity to take advantage of a life’s work.

Here is a house that is bursting with life, and with a little imagination, the possibilities are endless.
