New dedicated right-turn traffic lights are making it easier for drivers to access Tarneit train station.
The new lights are part of a $2.92 million upgrade of Derrimut Road, which has also included widening the intersection at Leakes Road and adding a turning lane to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow.
The project was jointly funded by Wyndham council and the state government.
More than 40,000 vehicles travel through the intersection each day, with traffic backing up during the morning and afternoon peaks.
In the past five years, there have been 20 recorded crashes at the intersection resulting in five serious injuries.
Tarneit MP Telmo Languiller said the traffic lights would reduce the risk of crashes and the length of traffic queues, and improve travel times.
Meanwhile, VicRoads has changed the sequencing of traffic lights along Derrimut Road between Railway Avenue and Heaths Road in Hoppers Crossing following its annual traffic light route review.
VicRoads journey services director Sameem Moslih said that after getting feedback from the community about this stretch of road, VicRoads introduced changes to the sequencing that has improved traffic flow and reduced travel times, particularly in the morning peak.
