The history and exoticism of Polynesia will be on show in a sold-out performance this Friday night when new musical ReHavaiki hits the stage at St Albans’ Bowery Theatre.
Writer and director Asalemo Tofete said ReHavaiki follows a young Australian-Pacific Islander woman’s quest to reconnect with her forebears and their ancient culture.
“In a world where we are forgetting our ancestors, forgetting where we have come from, we take a journey to reawaken the gifts from Havaiki that once saw us as fearless explorers, navigators of the seas, and discoverers of new worlds,” Mr Tofete said.
In Polynesian mythology, Havaiki or Hawaiki is the original home of the Polynesian people before their diaspora.
The musical features a 53-member cast who will be dressed in costumes made and designed by former Miss Samoa Victoria, Gina Tafea with music composed by Rita Seumanutafa.
