Design awards all sewn up

Entries are flying in thick and fast for this year’s Fashion Awards Australia, with budding designers and design students putting their best foot forward for the competition’s 20th anniversary.

Awards director Heather Marcus said the competition had received great interest from RMIT, Kangan Batman TAFE and secondary school students all keen to show off their designs.

The annual event – which involves budding designers from around the nation and design students from TAFEs, secondary colleges and tertiary campuses displaying their works in a range of categories – will be held at Encore Events Centre in Hoppers Crossing on October 13 this year.

Ms Marcus promised this year’s runway would be the best one yet.

“This will be a very special night,” she said.

“You’ll see gowns the likes of which you’ve never seen before.”

Ms Marcus said the competition had bought the rights for the Australian Gown of the Year award, a coup for this year’s offering.

Budding designers have until September 22 to enter the awards, and tickets will go on sale from August 1.
