Man arrested in relation to the “suspicious” death of a Sunshine West woman

A man wanted in relation to the death of a Sunshine West woman has been arrested in Queensland.

Mehmed Solma was arrested in Goondiwindi this morning. Homicide squad detectives will head to Queensland to apply for the 60-year-old’s extradition to Victoria.

Police say a hearing is likely to be held in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Fatma Solmaz was found dead in her Hall Street house just after 9pm on Tuesday.

A manhunt for her estranged husband began on Wednesday after police revealed he was a person of interest.

Homicide squad Detective Inspector Mick Hughes said the couple was living together, but had not been in a relationship for five years.

Neighbour Alfonz Sramcik said the couple mostly kept to themselves. He said Hall Street was usually quiet and most residents were elderly people like himself.
