A dinner date gone wrong is the subject of a comedy outing that will feature in this year’s Setting Sun Short Film Festival.
Sunshine filmmaker Andrew Robb’s latest short film, Dinner with Donna, his first foray into comedy, unfolds in a quiet restaurant over what he describes as an “unusual” meal.
Robb says he’s fascinated by strange scientific facts. One such fact involving worms and recovered memories became the basis for his new five-minute production.
“I once read that if you trained a worm to do something, and fed that worm to anther worm, the worm would inherit the other worm’s memory,” he said.
“I can’t give away the plot, but the film is about someone who tries to feed someone else a mysterious dish to change the way they were thinking about something.”
The filmmaker behind award-wining shorts
Tofu Man and Millennium Man said comedy proved as difficult as he’d anticipated. “I’ve realised it’s very challenging to hit the beats and hit the marks,” he said.
The film is one of 84 entries from destinations local and as far-flung as South America and London starring in the Setting Sun Short Film Festival.
It will air this Sunday at Sun Theatre at 4.30pm. For the full program and bookings, visit settingsunshortfilmfestival.com.au.
