Keilor Thunder suffered a gut wrenching 64-62 loss to the Western Port Steelers in the Big V basketball women’s division 1 at the Keilor Basketball Stadium on Saturday night.
The Thunder did their utmost in the final period to try and take the lead, but the Steelers held on for dear life to pick up their first win of the season.
Eboni Ross was the difference between the two sides.
The Steelers’ American import finished with 25 points and a whopping 21 rebounds.
For the Thunder, Danielle Wilson had a strong game with 20 points and 13 rebounds, while Amy Smith had a game-high nine assists to go with 16 points.
The result has left the Thunder down in second-last spot on the ladder with just one win from four games.
They will get a chance to re-group over the Easter break before returning to face Hawthorn Magic at the Keilor Basketball Stadium on April 22.
In men’s division 1, Keilor Thunder is perched on top of the Terrill conference going into the break after a fourth consecutive win to start the season.
The Thunder made light work of the Sunbury Jets in a 106-76 win at the Boardman Stadium on Saturday night.
Jordan Coleman top-scored for Keilor with 20 points, including three three-pointers, while there were double-doubles for BJ Symons (17 points and 10 rebounds) and Charleston Long (15 points, 13 rebounds and four assists).
Keilor’s next clash will be away to the Chelsea Gulls on April 23.
