It’s not every day you get to play football with AFL stars. But that’s just what St Theresa’s Primary School pupils in Albion did last week when they scored the chance to play Australian rules with Western Bulldogs’ Lachie Hunter and Matthew Boyd.
The pair visited the school on Wednesday to launch Experience AFL, one of 12 state government pilot programs aimed at getting kids involved in sport.
Simon Hollingsworth, chief executive of the Australian Sports Commission, which has partnered the state government in the Sporting School program, said getting kids to play sport from a young age could encourage a lifelong interest.
“From tennis to gymnastics, athletics to cricket, we’re providing an environment for Australian school children to get involved in sport-based activity before, during and after school,” he said. .
