Two-hour parking limits will be rolled out near Deer Park station in a bid to stop train commuters clogging residential streets.
In December, Brimbank council flagged the introduction of parking limits along the west side of Bryne Street, and restrictions for the first time on the south side of Wood Street and east side of Neimur Avenue.
A council questionnaire sent to affected residents at the time detailed the proposal. Brimbank’s infrastructure and city services director Neil Whiteside said responses had been mostly positive and it had been decided to go ahead with the plan. New signage will be rolled out before the end of April.
“The proposed restrictions will discourage train commuters from parking on one side of the road, but still allow some flexibility for residents and their visitors to park in the street,” Mr Whiteside said.
The new limits will be from 9am until 6pm weekdays. Two-hour parking restrictions are already in place in sections of Railway Parade and Bryne Street (south of Wood Street).
Mr Whiteside said the council was aware of the significant shortage of commuter car parking at Deer Park station, and the state government committed to extending the car park in its 2016-17 state budget.
VicTrack has plans for 225 new commuter carparks before the end of the year, although Deer Park’s carpark isn’t due to be finished before mid-next year.
