Vandals go on spree in Albion, damaging cars

Home security footage is being sought by police on the hunt for the perpetrators of a destructive rampage through Albion earlier this month.

About 20 Albion residents woke on February 8 to discover their cars had been vandalised in the early hours, with damage ranging from torn-off side mirrors to thick scratches running the entire length of their vehicles.

Investigating police officer First Constable Gabby Holt said there had been significant damage to cars parked in Derrimut, Adelaide, Sydney, Coolamon and Kamarooka streets.

She said police believe the rampage happened between 2.30am and 3.30am.

“A lot of cars have sustained damage to their rooves, sides and bonnets,” she said. “We want to know if anyone saw or heard anything.”

Police want anyone with security cameras to look over their footage to see if they captured the vandals in action.

So far 18 victims have reported property damage.

“But I’m getting more as the days go on,” First Constable Holt said.

She advised residents to park cars in a garage, if possible, or well-lit areas, to remove all valuables and lock all doors and windows.

Installing CCTV cameras was another option, she said.

Witnesses or anyone with knowledge of the February 8 incident is asked to contact First Constable Gabby Holt or Detective Senior Constable Matt Jerabek from Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit on 9313 3444.
