Jon Deeble is the ace up the sleeve for Melbourne Aces

Jon Deeble is getting the job done at home and abroad.

The Sunshine-raised super coach has been working his magic for the Melbourne Aces in the Australian Baseball League, turning them from easybeats to the team to beat in the space of one season.

The well-respected 54-year-old has been part of the coaching panels at two MLB clubs in the United States and has four championship rings in that time – three with the Boston Red Sox and one with the Florida Marlins (now Miami Marlins).

Deeble is about to embark on a new adventure in the US after signing on as a director with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Deeble is also coach of the Australian national baseball team.

“I coach our Australian Olympic team and have been to three Olympics with the team,” Deeble said.

“We’ve got the World Baseball Classic coming up in March.”

More pressing for Deeble is the ABL championship series.

The Aces will host the showpiece event for the first time since the league was reformed in the 2010-11 season.

After securing their first minor premiership, the Aces will take part in their first ABLCS since 2011-12, when they lost to Perth Heat.

Expect Melbourne Ballpark to be rocking this weekend as the Aces aim to break their title drought in a three-game series against the Brisbane Bandits starting on Friday night.
