Cairnlea retiree now a millionaire

A recent retiree from Cairnlea will pocket more than $1 million after taking out a division one prize in TattsLotto’s Wednesday draw.

The regular TattsLotto player says he poured himself a whisky to celebrate confirmation his entry had won him division one and prize money of about $1 million.

The winner, who did not want to be named, says he was watching the Australian Open when he saw his regular TattsLotto numbers displayed on the screen.

“I’ve played the same TattsLotto numbers for about 40 years so when I saw them I knew they were mine.

“At first I couldn’t believe it but not long after they showed them on the screen again. My wife was in another room so I screamed out ‘looks like we won TattsLotto’,” he says. “She couldn’t believe it either! But it’s true, thank God!

He says he had a bit of trouble sleeping that night as he lay in bed dreaming of how the cash would change his retirement plans.

“Until I retired I’d worked for the same company for about 48 years so this has come at a good time,” he says. “We were planning a holiday so now I’ll be upgrading our tickets to business class and we might even take a cruise.

The prize money would allow him to help out his family and spend more time playing golf, he says.

His winning 1-game system 8 entry was bought from Cairnlea News and Lotto.

Shop owner Lilian Bao says she was thrilled the prize money has gone to one of her regular customers.

“It’s so exciting to be able to play a part in his win and we’re so happy it’s one of our local and regular customers.” she says.

An entry purchased in New South Wales won the second division one prize pool.
