Food for a festive time

For the past few years, Cairnlea Park Primary School has played a significant role in Brimbank Community Church’s Christmas drive.

Each year the school asks students’ families to donate non-perishable food they can bundle together into Christmas hampers and give to people in need.

Major Simon Damen said the school donated so many tinned cans last year they were able to to put together 35 hampers.

But he’s hoping they can top that “awesome” effort this year.

“We rely on the generosity of the local community,” he said.

“Our big need here is for non-perishable food, especially things you want to put on your own table come Christmas Day … speciality things like boxes of chocolate, mini pavlovas, tinned ham or mini Christmas puddings.”

Anyone can donate to the Brimbank Salvation Army’s Christmas Drive.

Items can be dropped off at The Salvation Army’s Brimbank City Church, 2A Roseleigh Boulevard, Sydenham.

There will also be a collection point at Watergardens Shopping Centre from December 21-23 outside Woolworths (near Bakers Delight).
