Filip Vulic first donned boxing gloves less than three years ago. But the gifted athlete took to the sport like a proverbial fish to water. On November 26, the St Albans man won the Australian amateur boxing national title (cruiserweight division) in Cairns. Vulic won all four rounds, describing the win as “pretty comfortable”. The 24-year-old carpenter said he had tried his hand at boxing as another means of keeping fit. “I started for fitness, then the next thing you know I started competing,” he said. “I always like to challenge myself.” Vulic previously played soccer for the Melbourne Knights’ junior side, which he captained for two years, and the St Albans Saints seniors side. But he was forced to give up soccer due to injury.
