Outdoor pools open

St Albans Leisure Centre’s three outdoor pools are open for the rest of summer. There’s a 50-metre training pool, as well as smaller pools for learners and toddlers, at 90 Keilor Road, and also at Sunshine Leisure Centre, 5 Kennedy Street. Open Monday-Friday 6am-7pm; Saturdays and Sundays 8am-4.30pm.

 

Computer whiz call

Got a talent for software and a penchant for helping out older people wanting to stay abreast of the times? U3A Brimbank is looking for new volunteer computer tutors, for beginners and intermediate classes next year. U3A provides low-cost learning, creative and social classes and activities for residents aged 50 and more, who are retired or working part-time.

Two nights of carols

There will be two big nights of Christmas Carols in Sydenham this month. Sydenham Baptist Church’s Christmas carols will be held on December 10 and 11, with doors opening at 7pm, at 350 Calder Park Drive, Sydenham. There will be plenty of dance, solos and carols to enjoy.

 

Fit to drive

The Smarter Moves community road safety forum for young people aims to help young learners and emerging learners be safer road users this holiday. For people aged 15-19 and parents, the forum is at Sunshine’s Visy Cares Hub on December 6, 6.15-8.30pm, delivered by the Fit to Drive Foundation on behalf of the TAC. Free.

Carols and twilight market

Derrimut Community Centre’s family fun day and twilight market is on December 18, 4-7pm. There will be lots of free activities. Carols by Candlelight 8-9pm.

 

Love your Station

You can now love your local train station more regularly. The Friends of Kororoit Creek will hold a Love Your Station event each month at Sunshine train station, where you can help with planting, watering, weeding and some maintenance clean up. They’re held on the second Sunday of every month, with the next event at Sunshine train station on December 11 from 11am to midday.

Alcoholism Support

If someone you love is drinking too much, try Al-Anon family groups. No contracts to sign, no appointment needed. Confidential meetings respecting anonymity are held in Brimbank. Sunshine group meets every Wednesday (10.30am-noon). Uniting Church conference room. 28 Withers Street. New members welcome.

 

Bunnings Christmas

Get the festive spirit at Taylors Lakes Bunnings’ free family night on December 8 from 6pm. Lots of kids activities, including a jumping castel, Western Region Concert Band and a visit from Santa’s helpers.
