Helping hands, generous souls and open hearts are wanted by a community service that helps more than 300 asylum seeker families across Brimbank.
West Welcome Wagon (WWW) is running its annual food and Christmas toy drives to help support migrants living in the west.
“These appeals are only successful [because of] generous donations from the community, as well as the volunteers, who continue to support by collecting, sorting, packing, wrapping and delivering the beautiful gifts and hampers to more than 600 asylum seeker homes,” WWW president Marnie Kelly said.
“West Welcome Wagon has more than 600 houses on our books … more than 300 are from Brimbank,” she said. “Seeing the joy on the faces of the asylum seekers when we deliver a food hamper or toy hamper is absolutely heartwarming … we are making a difference.”
The Christmas toy drive, which runs until December 9, needs new, unwrapped presents for youngsters aged up to 17, which can be dropped at WWW’s Vella Drive base. The summer food drive runs until December 2, and needs non-perishable foods to fill hampers.
