Sunbury BMX star sees off Olympian in cup showdown

A homegrown hero came out on top in Sunbury BMX Club’s biggest event of the year.

The Sunbury Stars Cup attracted more than 320 riders aged from two to more than 50 from across Australia at the weekend.

Crowds flocked to the Sunbury track to see the best riders from across the state, including an Olympian, compete in four open and several junior categories for different bikes and age groups.

In the men’s pro AA race it came down to Sunbury’s  James Lautier and Australian Olympian Bodi Turner in the final.

Turner competed at this year’s Olympics, finishing fifth in his quarter-final.

Turner had to settle for second behind Lautier.

In the ladies pro final, Knox’s Phoebe Wallen took home the win.

The cup was the final of the seven-round cruiser series.

Sunbury BMX Club is the second biggest in Victoria and is always looking for new members. Training is held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and competitions are held twice a month on Saturdays.
