Long-time Friends of Kororoit Creek members Rosemary Armstrong, Glenda Kueng, Ferdi Saliba and Wayne Armstrong (pictured) stumbled upon a patch of delicate wahlenbergia on a stroll through Deer Park last Tuesday.
Glenda said the bluebells were vivid among the rushes, and were just one species among the glorious wildflowers the group spotted in Isabella Williams Reserve.
Wildflowers are in full bloom at the moment, so FOKC decided it’s the perfect time for a wildflower ramble.
Group president Jessica Gerger said FOKC is trying to restore indigenous grasses and wildflowers along the creek to provide the right habitat for lizards, frogs, butterflies and insects.
“Not only are these endangered plants beneficial, but they are also beautiful,” she said.
“Some are delicate and some are surprisingly bold. On the wildflower ramble, we learn more about them and see them at their most stunning.”
The two-hour outing on October 26 will begin at 10am at 47 Davitt Drive, Deer Park, meandering around the nearby wildflower garden before moving onto Isabella Williams Reserve.
