Police are appealing for witnesses to hit-and-run in Albion

Two teenage girls were rushed to hospital last night after a hit-and-run in Albion.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident that happened at the intersection of Anderson Road and Forrest Street on Monday to come forward.

The girls, a 14-year-old from Altona Meadows and a 15-year-old from Newport, were crossing at the pedestrian crossing when they were struck by a vehicle making a right-hand turn.

Senior Constable Alistair Parsons said the driver of the car stopped briefly about 50 metres west of Anderson Road on Forrest Street, before driving off without attempting to render assistance.

It is an offence to leave the scene of an accident. In instances where someone is seriously hurt, the offender can be charged with an indictable offence.

The 14-year-old was taken to hospital and received emergency dental surgery after losing several teeth, while the 15-year-old was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police believe the vehicle was a white van or SUV and possibly a Toyota.

Detectives are appealing to residents and businesses in the area that have CCTV to check the footage around the time of the collision.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or with further information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
