Adora Arch sprints to nationals

Adora Arch is the latest Brimbank Little Athletics star to make it big on the national stage.

Arch won both the under-13 100 metre and 200 metre sprint titles at the Australian Little Athletics Championships earlier this year.

She was also part of the under-13 4×100 metre relay – the team broke the national record on its way to gold.

Fellow Brimbank athlete Jamieson Battistella competed in the under-15 Australian Multi-Event Championships, held in conjunction with the Australian Championships.

Centre president David Thorton said Arch was the latest in a prestigious line of successful Brimbank athletes. He said nearly every year they had at least one athlete make the Victorian team for the national championships.

Among them is Adora’s sister, Billie Arch, who represented Australia at the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games in long jump, finishing fifth.

With the success of its athletes, the club wants to bring in new members, and will hold two come-and-try days ahead of the upcoming season.

The first of these is this Saturday, and the second is on October 2, at Sassella Park, Deer Park. Both sessions run from 10am until noon.

Thorton said Little Athletics wasn’t just beneficial for people interested in track and field events.

“Athletics has so much diversity,” he said.

“There’s the opportunity for you to go on and do other sports as well.

“Mathew Leckie, who plays for the Socceroos, and Will Hoskin-Elliott, who plays for Greater Western Sydney, both did Little Athletics here.

“It’s one way to help other sports, and it’s also an opportunity to get involved in social things.

“It teaches them to be leaders.”
