Taylors Lakes man faces charges over assaulting police dog

A Taylors Lakes man will be charged with assaulting a police dog, following a “dramatic” arrest at Airport West on Sunday. 

Police say that a K9 unit witnessed a car ramming another car on Matthews Avenue. 

When approached, the man challenged police and allegedly threatened to kill them with a firearm. 

A dog deployed in the process of apprehending the alleged offenderwas punched several times. 

The man continued to threaten police but was eventually taken in custody. 

He is currently in a hospital under police guard having receiving a minor injury during the arrest.
