Bring back healthy creeks

Enjoy a free barbecue with neighbours and make new friends while helping plant clumps of indigenous blue-flowered Flax lilies along Kororoit Creek this Saturday. The community planting and get-together is part of World Environment Day activities and is being held at Buckingham Reserve, from 10am until noon.

Book kinder place at birth

Register babies soon after birth for Brimbank’s funded kindergarten program, which happens in the year before children start school. Brimbank council manages the kindergarten enrolment service for 34 centres around Brimbank, ensuring children have places in kindergarten programs before they go to school. Kindergarten is free for families with health care cards.

Good rates for wellbeing

Brimbank residents are able to access inexpensive dermal, nutritional and osteopathic services at Victoria University’s St Albans Health and Wellbeing clinic, which is run by senior students under the supervision of fully qualified clinicians. The clinic is open to the public during the academic year and services are provided at heavily discounted rates. Initial consultations are free.

Deadline on bowel scan

Early detection is vital for the treatment of bowel cancer, with 90 per cent of cases curable if detected early enough. The Rotary Clubs of Altona and Altona City have teamed up to make the Bowelscan program available locally. A simple kit costing $10 from Sunshine Plaza pharmacy can be used at home then returned for analysis. Tests must be returned by June 19.

Learn to meditate

The benefits of meditation are well known and Brimbank’s Women’s Meditation Group is inviting women to try for themselves. Group sessions cover different meditation techniques and styles, every Monday, 1.15-2.30pm, at Good Shepherd Community House, 168 Main Road East, St Albans.
