Get savvy online

Want to find out how easy it is to communicate online? Then try YouthNow’s “pass IT on” program for the young and old, at which you can receive one-on-one assistance using digital technology, including email, Facebook and Skype. Free sessions are held every Monday and Friday from 9.30am until noon at the Visy Cares Hub in Sunshine.

Community market day

The Lions Club of Taylors Lakes will host its first free community market day on November 20. Local artisans and producers are invited to express their interest in having a stall. Stallholders must be from Taylors Lakes and surrounding suburbs. Stalls will be $25, payable at the event, which will run from 9am until 3pm at Taylors Creek Linear Park. Local community groups are also invited to book a stall to display their services. There will be no charge for non-profit groups.

Jones Creek plant-out

Community help is needed to plant native grasses on a steep section of Jones Creek on Saturday, August 13, from 10am. Bring water, hats, sturdy shoes and sunscreen. Meet at 639 Ballarat Road, Albion.

Sunny-side up at station

Come along and put some sparkle into Sunshine station by helping to tidy up, plant and weed on August 21 from 1pm. Meet the clean-up team’s Butt it, Bin it mascot Barry, who will hand out portable ashtrays for smokers. Bring your own water. Meet at City Place outside Dragon Express Chinese.

Brimbank Community and Civic Centre will host the 2016 Victorian Small Business Festival – Marketing for Growth, August 9; Develop your online strategy workshop, August 16; and Building your business advantage workshop, August 24. Keep busy feet dancing

BusyFeet offers dance and movement activities for children with intellectual and physical disabilities, aged from six to 16 years. Participants develop self confidence through the movement of dance. Classes for children are now being run at Banchory Community Centre, Hillside, on Saturdays, 11am until 11.45am. Teacher Lexie comes from Dance West Studios.

Money matters for women

Two free, financial coaching programs tailored for women are set for Brimbank next month. Good Shepherd’s Let’s Talk About Money will be held tonight (August 9), also August 16, 23 and 30 and September 6 at Hillside Community Centre, and on August 22 and 25 and September 5 and 12 at Westvale Community Centre. It’s part of a Firmer Foundations initiative to support women aged 18 and more to build financial knowledge and independence.
