Man with critical burns after Sunshine North explosion

A man is in a critical condition after a tin of paint thinner exploded in his hand at a Sunshine North recycling business just after midday.

3AW has reported the tin exploded while the man was moving it away from a fire he had lit in a drum to keep warm.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said the man, in his 50s, was taken to the Alfred hospital with burns to his face, chest, abdomen, arms and lower body.

Worksafe has been notified, police say.
