Tree day plant-out

Celebrate National Tree Day planting shrubs and wildflowers at the Stepping Stones across Kororoit Creek in Sunshine West, from 10am Sunday, July 31. Friends of Kororoit Creek will also be painting a concrete drain, and kids are welcome to come and paint, or get their faces painted. Bring sturdy shoes, hat, gloves, and water bottles. Corner of Warmington Road and Morrison Crescent.

Market starts up

The Lions Club of Taylors Lakes’ first free community market on November 20 will showcase artisans, craftspeople and producers. Stallholders must be from Taylors Lakes and nearby. Stalls $25, payable at the event, which will run from 9am until 3pm at Taylors Creek linear park. Community groups can book a stall. There will be no charge for non-profit groups.

Inky awards on

Popular author Lili Wilkinson will be at Taylors Lakes Secondary College on July 20 as the school steps up as the Victorian Flagship Ambassador School to host the 2016 Inky Awards, in the library, starting at 4pm.

Talk about wild dog

Lyn Watson from the Dingo Foundation will be guest speaker at the Sunshine Golden Age Garden Club this Wednesday. She will share her work about the preservation of the Australian alpine dingo, now facing extinction in the wild. Lyn will also bring along some dingo puppies. Share a cuppa. 7.30pm to 9pm All welcome.

Groups up for grants

Brimbank residents have until July 17 to apply for a community grant. The $330,000 program offers one-off grants to not-for-profit groups that boost public health and wellbeing. Grant categories include community leadership, staying healthy and connected, communities and environment, gender equity and family violence prevention, and lifelong learning.

Talent show on

Talented young musicians will show Brimbank’s got talent at the 2016 Brimbank FReeZA Push Start competition, July 23 at the Visy Cares Hub, Sunshine.

 

Art uncovers reality

A new art exhibition at the Hunt Club will focus on raising awareness about mental illness and disability. 27 per cent, by John Puli and friends, will also raise funds to improve access for people impacted. The exhibition launch is on July 15 at 4pm, and it runs until August 13.

Probus for fun

The Combined Probus Club of Keilor meet the third Monday of each month at 10am, Keilor Hotel. Includes morning tea and guest speaker, as well as outings, walking and theatre visits. New members welcome.
