Brimbank teenagers charged over Coburg armed robbery

Two Brimbank teenagers have been charged over the armed robbery of a Coburg jewellery store on Thursday night.

Leading Senior Constable Paul Turner said three men entered the Sydney Road jeweller, Farah Jewellery, and stole items from a display case about 6pm.

He said passersby made a citizens arrest on two people as they tried to flee the store.

A Cairnlea man, 18, and a Derrimut man, 19, have been charged with armed robbery, aggravated burglary and theft.

A store owner told Star Weekly thousands of dollars worth of gold necklaces and bracelets were stolen.

The teenagers have been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Detectives are currently searching for a third offender.

In a separate incident, four Brimbank teenagers have been charged in relation to three robberies in the city and inner west suburbs earlier this year.

Police spokeswoman Amelia Penhall said the charges relate to robberies on April 4 in Alfred Place in the city, Stanely Street in West Melbourne and Orr Street in North Melbourne where phones and wallets were stolen.

Two teenagers have been charged with robbery, assault in company, assault with intent to rob, assault by kicking and theft of a bicycle after warrants were issued on Thursday.

A Derrimut teenager, 16, has been bailed to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

An 18-year-old Kealba man has been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on September 1.

An 18-year-old Kings Park man and a 19 year-old Sunshine man arrested on April 4 have been charged with robbery, assault in company, assault with intent to rob, assault by kicking and theft of bicycle.

They have been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on the September 1.
