Keilor Park dumping ground set to transform into an employment hub

Plans to transform a Keilor Park dumping ground into a significant employment hub – including 63 warehouses, 18 stores and a cafe – have gone before Brimbank council.

Designs seen by Star Weekly reveal a plan to split a 60,000-square-metre paddock on Thomsons Road next to Keilor Park Recreation Reserve, a site often used to dump rubbish, into three lots, with a total of 426 car spaces.

The 2.5-hectare eastern parcel, to be known as Aerocorp Business Park, would house the 63 industrial warehouses, 18 stores and cafe next door to an existing McDonald’s restaurant.

Future tenants are unknown at this stage.

A 1.5-hectare central land parcel would be used for a business manufacturing blinds and employing up to 90 staff, while a 2.04-hectare lot in the western section would be divided into 12 industrial blocks to be serviced by a new local road.

“The proposed warehouses, stores and industrial development opportunities will assist in achieving the industrial vision for Brimbank,” Aerocorp Development’s planning permit application to Brimbank council states.

“The proposal generates significant employment opportunities in a strategic location that further strengthens Brimbank’s key role in the provision of industrial land.

“[It] provides an efficient use of the land for industrial purposes in a location with excellent access to transport services and infrastructure.”

The business park permit application notes there is a 17-23-year supply of vacant land in Brimbank, and development of the Thomsons Road site would “achieve the industrial vision” for the city.

The applicant says once vacant land is developed, new industries could generate about 7470 new jobs in the manufacturing, transport, logistics and distribution and wholesale trade sectors.

Brimbank council will assess the application in coming weeks.
