A noise monitor for aircraft flyovers in Keilor was removed by “stealth”, a resident claims.
An AirServices spokesman confirmed that the monitor, which no longer complies with international standards and is “prone to irregularities”, had been removed by the organisation last week.
Brimbank council has been told by AirServices a new location for monitoring would be announced “soon” with a site proposed in East Keilor.
Two temporary monitors will be installed in Keilor Village and East Keilor for three months to “assist in determining the best location for the permanent noise monitor”.
But Keilor resident Susan Jennison said the monitor had been “removed in a stealth-like way”.
“It’s a concern,” she said. “Why was it removed if you didn’t have a permanent alternative site?”
City development director Stuart Menzies said in February the council wanted the monitor to remain in Keilor to ensure aircraft noise was recorded “in an accurate and timely way”.
“The council has also encouraged Airservices Australia to continue to consult with the local community.”
