Pet registration deadline looms

Brimbank pet owners have less than two weeks to register their cats and dogs.

Residents can be fined if their animals are not registered, desexed and microchipped.

Star Weekly revealed last year that the biggest share of abandoned animals in the west that end up at North Melbourne’s Lost Dogs Home come from Brimbank.

By law, cats and dogs older than three months must be registered with council.

“All dogs and cats registered for the first time in Brimbank must be microchipped and desexed,” chairman of administrators John Watson said.

Registration tags are worn on the animal’s collar.

Pets must be registered by April 10. Details: www.brimbank.vic.gov.au or 9249 4000
