Man sought over western suburbs crime spree

Police have a face image and CCTV footage of a man being sought for a crime spree across Melbourne’s west.

A Taylors Hill woman parked her car in a car park on Gladstone Street, Moonee Ponds about 8.30am last Wednesday when a man approached her.

He verbally threatened her and demanded the keys to her grey 2010 Nissan 370z coupe convertible.

The woman handed them over and the man drove out of the car park.

About 3.10pm, a Maidstone woman was loading shopping into her car at a Maribyrnong shopping centre when the grey Nissan approached.

The man got out of the car, attempted to hit the woman but missed before he grabbed her handbag off her shoulder and drove off.

The car was then used in attempted burglary in Flemington when he entered the drive thru of a fast food restaurant shortly after 10pm, attempting to crawl through a window and grab the cash register.

He managed to grab the cash box but was unable to pull it out though the window despite keeping staff at bay with what appeared to be a crowbar.

He escaped in the car along Racecourse Road.

About 2.45pm on Thursday the driver of the stolen car demanded money from the cash register at a hair salon on Gordon Street in Maribyrnong.

After being told by staff there was no money he attempted to steal a handbag but left empty handed.

The man said “I’m sorry” to the female staff member on his way out.

About 11am Friday the driver got out of the car in Woodland Street, Essendon wearing gloves and with his face wrapped in a black jumper.

He entered a hair salon, stole cash from the register and drove off.

The stolen car was located about 5.20pm on Saturday in a car park behind flats on Victoria Street in Flemington.

Detectives have released a facial composite image of a man they wish to speak to as well as CCTV from the fast food restaurant in Flemington.
